Some fun patterns and applications for my senior project.

@font-face { font-family: “Cambria”; }p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal { margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: “Times New Roman”; }div.Section1 { page: Section1; }

One use of the Psalt Shaker stencil is to be used primarily around Christian communities (churches, Christian schools, etc) where passers by will more readily understand the use of “Psalters” as a reference to those who wrote psalms. In such areas, other tag lines such as “YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH” and “WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE FROZEN CHOZEN MELT?” could also be implemented. The former being a reference to Jesus’ words in the book of Matthew, and the latter a reference to the term many use for the Christian community in New England. The implication here is that the proper instigation against cold religion in New England will free the Body from its frozen state into a more accommodating and mobile one, as seen visually as the snow on which the stencil is made literally melts due to passing salt trucks.

The second use of the Psalt Shaker is to be used in more visible, less specific snow banks, where it can be used as a source of encouragement for the everyday person passing by. In these areas, the “Psalters” graphic can be accompanied by Psalms (either references or whole verses). The implication is that the Psalms and God’s word have the reactive power to melt away the coldness of our hearts.

Snow Graffiti Inspiration

This is my friend Whitney’s blog. She posts lots of pictures (taken and borrowed), quotes, and music clips that relate to her life. She’s using a paperboard background with a serif typewriter-style font and centered text and images. Perhaps the most striking fact about this blog visually is that there is no title at the top. This serves to keep the tone of the author understated and allow for some extra mystery within the posts. Additionally, as one scrolls down the page, they will notice the aesthetic break-up of the posts through varying types of posts (for example, the posts are not entirely image based, but rather there are also plenty of linked quotes, song links, and others).

The Sartorialist Blog is a very simple, image-heavy blog. It serves the purpose of displaying a photographer, Scott Schuman’s, fashion and street-fashion photography. He includes occasional comments on the photos, but mostly lets the images speak for themselves. The site works similarly to an art gallery—its white walls, centered images, and a classy but understated serif font allow the viewer easy access to the images. Nothing too crazy, just enough design in the right places to stay out of the way.
